August - Fleece of the Month.
I have accidentally acquired too many raw fleeces! So starting this month, until I use them all up, I aim to process one per month.
This months fleece is an Australian Merino - quite a unique fleece, a light tan, with patches of chocolate and overall golden tones. I plan on using it in a rigid heddle weaving project (and specifically why I spun the fibre in the grease). No doubt this project will end up, with some crazy name referencing this golden fleece, Jason and the Argonauts, or ‘The Journey to Cholchis’!
Spin details:
Schacht Matchless, double drive, high speed bobbins and ratio,
Prep: none other than flicking some of the tips,
Spun in the grease, butt-to-tip, short forward draw, worsted.
Singles spun ‘z’. Chain plied ‘s’.
Enjoy the photos, there is a short video on YouTube you can see here and I will share the final weave with this fleece at a later date.
UP NEXT: September is a dark grey Aussie Alpaca fleece; 1.4kg of it no less!
See you next month,
~Karlie.
