Fibre Art Installation -Personal Project - Van Cabin Roof.
This project was over 12 months in the making! If you’re interested can see a short collection of old Tiktoks i’ve compiled over on YouTube here. It’s my first clip on YouTube, so it’s a little shoddy. But there was quite a bit of work involved in removing the cargo barrier and opening up the bulkhead area. The main living space of the van needed a kitchen storage space, which then provided me with the flat surface to work with inside the cabin area. It was lined with automotive carpet, and then I made a huge sheet of felt that was anchored to the carpet. The felt itself is supposed to give the impression of looking up through a canopy of trees, with lots of open sky space, but with random branches, and blotches of greenish out-of-focus looking foliage.
Many, MANY flowers and leaves were wet-felted, hand sculpting and stitched together, then stitched to the felt roof. Unfortunately, I didn’t film anymore of this process, as I stopped using Tiktok. I also added some fairy lights and a felted bowl, and a few other embellishments, and some netting. To finish, I covered the “wall” behind the seats with a rich green velvet, I am in love with this space, and I use the front of the van for filming, as one of my art studios, and an office space. I love driving around surrounded in my fibre art!
A night time clip with the fairy lights can be found here.
